Contributions
Ideology Theory Practice publishes rigorous, well-researched contributions that shed new light on the study of ideology and ideologies, broadly construed. Contributors may use their pieces to bring aspects of their established research to a wider audience interested in ideological themes, or to develop new ideas and test future directions in their scholarship.
Contributions to Ideology Theory Practice typically take the following forms:
The editorial team is open to receiving proposals for collaborative pieces as well as for special series of thematic pieces. We will also occasionally consider contributions in a different format, such as interviews, roundtables, or ‘in conversation’ exchanges. Please contact the team if you would like to propose a contribution along these lines.
Ideology Theory Practice is committed to widening access and diversity in academic research, and to overcoming discrimination on the basis of income and class, sex and gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, nationality and citizenship, age, or disability. The editorial team especially encourages contributions from those subject to exclusion on these grounds, and submissions that bring these perspectives to bear on ideological issues in contemporary society.
Anyone interested in contributing to Ideology Theory Practice should submit a short pitch outlining their proposed submission, along with a brief biographical note to the editorial team at: ideology.theory.practice@gmail.com.
The team will review each pitch and decide whether or not to invite authors to submit a piece. Pieces will be reviewed by members of the editorial team, based on their expertise within ideology studies and the piece’s subject-matter. Where necessary, the team reserves the right to consult external specialists to ensure rigorous and complete feedback. The editorial team will work with authors to refine their contributions ahead of publication in Ideology Theory Practice.
Contributions to Ideology Theory Practice typically take the following forms:
- Short reads: 1500–2000 words. These are intended to offer succinct commentary on individual thematic points of interest to the study of ideologies.
- Long reads: 3000–4000 words. These are designed to act as more reflective explorations of more complex, deeper themes of ideological relevance.

- In the case of a single- or joint-authored piece, pitches should be 150 words long.
